Well, it's been about a month since we've returned from our trip to China and i've had some time to think about the trip and go through some photos. There were so many emotions and frustrations surrounding the trip that it was hard to come to grasps with what we had just accomplished. My mom is still having nightmares about some parts of the trip and I still almost constantly think about some of the hospitals we went to and how harsh the conditions were. A major piece of advice: try not to get sick in China.
The other idea that has been difficult to grasp is how it seems that the Chinese culture is being constantly destroyed for newer, more modern towns and buildings. Their cultural revolution is huge and it seems their history, which is a wonderful history more than 4000 years old, is being lost. A prime example of this is the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, where 1.4 million people were displaced and over 1200 archeological digs had only begun to scratch the surface of what was there are now gone and destroyed forever. A huge part of their history wiped away.
I wish I had traveled to China 10 years ago, before this revolution began and then I may have been able to see the country that i've heard about for so many years. I am very grateful that we were able to go and I look forward to returning to see more of the China that I hope to see.
I will soon post a few of my favorite photos for viewing enjoyment.
